Blue & Green inspiration (if not obsession!)

Blue & Green is all I see at the moment. My eye gets drawn into these deep blue - greens, icy blues, muted soft blues, bright greens, emerald and midnight blues... Gimme more! Of course in furniture for me, it reflects in gorgeous velvets, soft cottons and rich wools...

But since it all starts there...here's a little inspo drawn from Mama nature...

Shades of pale pink

To be honest I'm not what I'd call "a girly kind of girl" so pink was never my colour of choice. But something's shifted obviously (I bought a pair of hot pink shoes last summer - a brave moment obviously) and I am very attracted by the use of dusty/pastels/soft pinks in accessories or furniture in the home... We have now seen them in interiors and in a few furniture collections for a little bit. So in the end I guess I just gave in. They're fresh, calming, candid and peaceful. They're a great complement to greys and neutrals obviously, create a beautiful and soft contrast with black and mingle with copper like they're meant for each other. What's not to love?

Mood board - Cobalt and neutrals

Mood board... Colour board... As I am working on my next range of products for anaca studio, I am going through some colour selection for the upholstery. I am a generally a big fan of neutral and grey and tans, and although it can seem a little safe at times, I still love the look in interiors. So long as it is mixed with plenty of texture. I find it calming and soothing. This said, a little introduction of colours cannot go astray. So when I started putting a few elements together and thinking of what colour to bring in my favourite mix of neutrals, I didn't choose the colour, the colour jumped at me like it was the obvious choice. This rich cobalt blue. Admittedly it has been growing in the back of my mind for a little while - unnoticed and somehow overlooked. Until now. So now the colours are picked, I'm going through texture selections... More soon, so keep an eye on this page...

Oh, and if you're interested in colour psychology, I stumbled onto this interesting article from NY Times. Enjoy.

Wood+Colour

First post for 2013... but why break the "tradition". I often post on wooden or colourful objects and these are fresh ones I found on newly discovered online shop A+R Store. Having just spent some time with my niece and nephew over the holidays I thought some of these could be fun for kids bedroom...

Colour me happy...

In stark contrast with the last post... and because the sun is starting to show up again, here is a little colour and fun for you today! Couple of selections from Urban Outfitters and some Etsy bright delights (here and here). Although I am generally more into earthy tones and muted colours, these little things have caught my attention ... and a splash of colour never hurt anyone!

Loveseats...

Who wouldn't want a cute little love seat? Here are a few colourful ones to inspire you in case you didn't... Some call them "benches" but "Loveseat" sounds so such much nicer (maybe it's the French in me)!  This is a pretty broad selection to suit a wide variety of homes or some more commercial interiors...
Going clockwise: Archie from Jardan, Nub by Patricia Urquiola for Andreu World, Foliage also by Patricia Urquiola for Kartel (in fact at almost 2m long it is a Big loveseat I admit... but still has that Loveseat look), Iconic Swan from Arne Jacobsen for Fritz Hansen, Basket from Softline, and last but not least the Ercol Loveseat from Temperature Design.

When Porcelain and Pastels meet...

Recently we've been talking with a couple of friends about doing a ceramic workshop to get the creative minds (and hands) going. I haven't done any ceramics since my Art&Design degree in Scotland (over 12 years ago...eek!) but I truly enjoyed it then. I used to spend a lot of time in the timber workshop using heavy, loud and dangerous machinery, the one day a week in the ceramic studio was like being in heaven. So on the subject of ceramics, when I saw these delicate and sweet porcelain creations from Urban Cartel I couldn't help but wanting to share them. More than the just the fine lines and shapes I think it's the colour selection of the range that really grabbed my attention. Beautiful mix of subtle pastels and greys that are highlighted by a glossy (food safe!) glaze.  Designed by Craig Pearce. Another great thing is that they are a local product, yes, designed and made in Melbourne! Love that, of course.

Contrasts of Blue and Gold

It's that first image from Nik Epifanidis and interior project from Chelsea Hing that brought this incredibly beautiful contrast of colours to my attention. This dark bluey-grey and the gold are a match made in heaven. I have a crush, big time. Also picture from Ditte Isager and Little Blue Deer.

Kantha Quilts - Bring colour to your life!

Ok this post is very colourful in contrast with the subtle neutral tones of last week post... but, "c'est comme ça..."
Maybe some of you have already seen it, but Temple & Webster (top image) have a Kantha quilt sale and it seems that they've sold like hot cakes because by the time I got to it, there weren't that many left. The two first shown above (front and back) are currently still going... If you've missed out on your favourite one, I've just found The Family Love Tree, they have an amazing collection AND some very pretty styling in case you're not sure how to put it all together. The bottom 3 images are from their website and there are many more to check there. Being so colourful and bringing so many patterns together, I'm not even game to take that step lightly but I love them, they'll add a touch of "bohemian" look to your home...

Shades of Green - Vintage Glass

I find Etsy such a good resource for these Vintage objects that can sometimes cost a small fortune in Australia. Especially if sourced from "fashionable" second hand or Vintage shops. Since these little gems have become so popular, they are getting harder to find and even Opp shops tend to now overprice them... But if don't want to go around looking for a real little treasure, Etsy is the place.

Pastelicious

So there it is... Pastel seems to be everywhere I look. I certainly didn't think I would be a "pastel" person. Until this summer, when I started a small range of jewellery, playing with a few colours. I was actually trying to achieve some much brighter tones but the pastels were created somewhat by mistake. But then they really grew on me... and it seems to get worse. I guess it is healthy to keep an open mind. Never say never. So here are a few inspiring images...

Visit to Camberwell market looking for a vintage treasure

Another trip to Camberwell market and always plenty to peruse or just look at. Admittedly I was hoping to find a small treasure to work on as a "found object" project with my friend Roni. Alas... not to be. We found plenty other things to buy but most where too nice to modify, or too big, too small etc... At least it was a beautiful day for strolling through the market and always enjoyable to take a few inspiring snaps...

Couple of miniature chairs... or a huge rooster?

I am in my colour phase...
